SUNNY SIDE UP IS A THREE-STAND CREATIVE PROJECT THAT'S CENTRED ON ECO-POSITIVITY.
The climate crisis is overwhelming. And, when faced with overwhelm, it’s incredibly human to want to run the other way. Sunny Side Up aims to show that we don’t have to be scientists to talk to our children about environmental topics – but that by starting those conversations, we can raise the next generation of eco-activists that have a practical understanding of what it means to be environmentally-friendly.
ECO-POSITIVE KID'S LIT
Sunny Side Up began as an Instagram-based micro-book review hub, looking exclusively at eco-positive kid’s lit from the UKs leading publishers - all with the aim of sorting the wheat from the chaff as the children’s publishing industry leapt onto the climate crisis as a commercial trend. It’s a way of celebrating the environmental books for kids that hold creative value and educational worth.
THE TOOLKIT ZINE
From this community, the idea to create a printed zine grew! Designed to act as a toolkit for parents, caregivers and teachers, the zine will explore the many aspects of environmentalism in modern family life, and offer a hand to hold as we start to engage our children environmentally and encourage a positive relationship with our planet. Thanks to a grant from Bath Spa University, the first zine will be landing in autumn 2020.
SOMETHING NEW
The third strand of Sunny Side Up is still in development, and also hoping to launch towards the end of 2020. I can’t say much, but I’ll leave you with this: creative workshops to inspire the next generation of story makers - coming to a play cafe or bookshop near you soon.
